Percy The Giant Mule

Percy is our gentle giant. He came to WRR from the worst kill pen in the country. We know he’s been through hell, yet all he wants to do is love and be loved. His massive size can be intimidating, but the moment people meet him his sweet nature wins them over.

Mules are a cross between a male donkey and a female horse. We believe Percy to be a mammoth donkey and draft horse! A female mule is called a molly, a male mule is called a john.

Percy is often found beside his human. He and his girl have a special bond! Come meet Percy and see why he’s one of our favorites!

My favorite animal is the mule. He has more horse sense than a horse. He knows when to stop eating - and he knows when to stop working.

Henry

Henry is our senior Vietnamese pot belly pig. He is a favorite of our youth volunteers. He loves to be sang to and is very calm and relaxing.

Pot belly pigs are often left in rescues when people see how destructive they can be. Though Henry ended up with a good life at Whispering River that’s not the same story for many others.

Come meet Henry at the rescue and learn more about pot belly pigs. . You’ll likely finding him eating or sleeping his two favorite activities!

Pigs are smart little creatures. They just need love.

Festus

Festus is our resident donkey. Our director likes to remind us that donkeys want to be loved. He’s shy and beautiful, yet loves attention.

Festus was rescued by our director years ago from an Amish farm. She knew she needed him in her life as donkey’s are strong and independent. They are a life long commitment as they can live 50 years!!! They also have long memories so always be nice to a donkey because they’ll remember.

Festus can often be found hanging outside with the love of his life Remi. Come say hello to Festus when you visit the farm!

Bob

Bob isn’t the same goat he was a short few months ago. He had a skin condition that gave him rashes and hair loss. He is finally better and has really come out of his shell. He loves to snuggle with his human friends.

Goats know their name and will come when they are called. They also wag their tails! Goats were one of the first animals to be domesticated! Goats also have rectangle pupils! It’s pretty cool.

Come meet Bob and our little pack at the farm!

I will lose the habit of stars in the heavens, as frozen water loses the habit of snowflakes. I will take my frozen body, and give it to the young goats that they might graze it.

Hero

Hero is our core educational LaMancha goat. He’s basically a dog goat. He follows the volunteers around and loves a good scratch! He even wags his tail in delight!

LaMancha goats are known as good milkers! They have little to no ears , which is often something our guest are curious about. Goats are funny and curious creatures with kind hearts. We could all strive to be more like our goat friends.

Come meet Hero and our little pack at the farm!

Phoenix

Phoenix is our stunning Golden Pheasant. He makes the coolest sounds and night and loves to strut around showing off his colors.

It’s hit or miss if he will come out to meet guests, but when he does he really puts on a show! We love his spunk and personality.

Come meet Phoenix and all our other Pheasants!

The world has different owners at sunrise... Even your own garden does not belong to you. Rabbits and blackbirds have the lawns; a tortoise-shell cat who never appears in daytime patrols the brick walls, and a golden-tailed pheasant glints his way through the iris spears.

Snowflake

Snowball is a white broad breasted turkey. She is the friendliest girl on the farm and is often found tagging alongside volunteers and visitors.

If you come to the farm and meet Snowball be prepared to have a conversation with her. She loves to be spoken to and a good petting!

Come meet Snowball and see how amazing our girl is!

The turkey's eyes are such that he can see a bumblebee turn a somersault on the verge of the horizon.

Tori (In remembrance)

Tori is a beautiful blind horse. She is babied by everyone at the farm. She is sweet, stubborn, and beautiful with a heart of gold. She loves to be spoken to and will sometimes neigh back.

Tori takes a lot of extra care because of her disability. Everything from leading her outside to trying to get a halter on are made a bit more difficult.

Tori has adapted well to her blindness. She has no issues finding her food and water. She knows her favorite people by sound and smell. When she hears them she’ll swing her head in the direction of the sound. Tori is so smart!

We lost our sweet Tori after a medical emergency in early December 2020. She will live fondly in our memories forever.
